Evan Marriott has a passion for building things听and exploring how they function. 鈥淎s a child, I loved tinkering and figuring out the mechanics behind objects, which sparked my interest in engineering.鈥澨

The Mechanical Engineering student completed his first work term as a听Process Improvement Engineer Intern听with Tony鈥檚 Meats.听鈥淎t Tony鈥檚, my work focused on daily scheduling, tracking efficiency, and streamlining costing processes. These projects aimed to improve production efficiency, enabling the company to grow, attract more customers, and boost overall production capabilities,鈥 he says.

鈥淭ony鈥檚 was been incredibly supportive of my professional development. I had more autonomy than in any of my previous roles, allowing me to solve problems creatively and think outside the box,鈥 he says, 鈥淚 significantly improved my communication skills; regularly interacting with employees at all levels, from managers and supervisors to office staff and owners.鈥

Evan鈥檚 confidence in his abilities grew throughout the work term. 鈥淚 learned that I excel in leadership,鈥 he says. 鈥淭his work term has also shown me that I鈥檓 capable of effectively communicating with individuals from diverse backgrounds and levels of experience.鈥

鈥淭he team at Tony鈥檚 is exceptional; they made me feel like part of the family. Everyone is highly knowledgeable, approachable, and always willing to lend a hand when needed. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and would highly recommend working at Tony鈥檚.鈥

听鈥淒espite having no prior work experience or experience in the meat industry, Evan quickly adapted to the role. Overall, Evan's performance exceeded expectations, and we look forward to his continued growth and potential return in future work terms.

鈥淭he Dalhousie Co-op program is a great platform for students and employers. It provides students with valuable hands-on experience while allowing employers to discover and nurture emerging talent,鈥 he says. 鈥淚 can personally attest to its benefits, as I joined my company through the co-op program. Having progressed in my career, I can now hire from the same program, continuing the cycle of growth and opportunity.鈥

What鈥檚 next for Evan? 鈥淢y ultimate goal is to work in the aerospace industry and one day even go to space. I鈥檓 eager to use my skills to contribute to space exploration and technology. I鈥檓 excited to continue growing as an engineer and pursuing opportunities in aerospace and beyond.鈥
