The School of Health Sciences offers a Post-Diploma program leading to a Bachelor鈥檚 of Health Science in any of the following disciplines:
- Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound Technology
- Emergency Medical Services Management (for Advanced Care paramedics)
- Medical Laboratory Technology (Post Diploma only)
- Nuclear Medicine Technology
- Radiological Technology
- Respiratory Therapy

Admission requirements
Minimum admission requirements
To be considered for admission to this program, you must meet minimum academic criteria:
- Completion of secondary school (Grade 12)
- Achievement of the minimum average for your program of choice.
- Completion of Grade 12 English (or equivalent course).
Admission to many Dalhousie programs is competitive. This means that meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.
Program-specific admission requirements
The following requirements are applicable to all disciplines in the post-diploma program. You must provide proof of the following criteria within your application:
- Successful completion of a Canadian-accredited two-year diploma program (ACP for Paramedics).听
- Successful completion of the Canadian licensing/certification exam required to enter the workforce.
- At least 2 years of experience working in the profession.听
- Active membership and evidence of good standing with the relevant Canadian professional association and/or college.听
Individuals with international training must acquire licensure in Canada to qualify for admission.
Your completed Dalhousie application for admission, transcripts from any previous diploma program or other post-secondary institutions attended and the application fee should be submitted to the Registrar's Office. When asked to which program you are applying, please indicate that you are applying to the post-diploma program with the specific professional stream or field of study.
This letter provides you with the opportunity to expand on your experience, including any advanced or specialty education you may have and your interest in undertaking university studies.
Information to be included:
- Two years of post-diploma work experience in your profession.
- Any educational initiatives undertaken since completing your diploma.
- Other professional activities, e.g. in professional association.
- How this program will contribute to your professional development.
- Personal and professional motivation.
- Readiness for university education.
Include a copy of your resume outlining your education, work, and volunteer experiences. Please include the names, addresses, and phone numbers of two references.
Applicants must provide proof of each of these requirements by uploading sufficient documents to their application portal:
Certification: A copy of your national exam results or confirmation that you have passed the examination.听
Membership:听A copy of your current membership card displaying the registration number and expiration date.

Program options
The post-diploma BHSc curriculum is equivalent to 2 years of full-time university study (60 credit hours/20 courses). Courses may be completed in the sequence best suited for the student; however, attention must be paid to course prerequisites. To accommodate the working professional, the post-diploma program is available on a full-time or part-time basis, and all courses are delivered via distributed (i.e., distance) learning, using the Brightspace learning management system platform. There are university regulations regarding the maximum time allowed for completing a degree. Refer to the undergraduate calendar for regulations.
