In 2020, Dal music grad聽Peter Johnston (BM'00) initiated a trans-Atlantic collaboration with Scottish musicians M脿iri Morrison and Alasdair Roberts. The purpose of the project was to explore how English and Gaelic songs that originated in Scotland were changed over distance and time by Scottish settlers in Nova Scotia.
The trio worked together at a distance, combing the Helen Creighton Collection in the Nova Scotia Archives to find songs that embodied this transformation, and then convened at Fang Recording in Dartmouth in June 2023 to record these songs with a group of Halifax and Toronto-based musicians, including Dal music alum聽David Christensen (BM'02).
The resulting album is titled "Remembered in Exile: Songs and Ballads from Nova Scotia" and was released by Chicago's Drag City Records in April 2025.
