Paper and office supplies

Dalhousie has a Sustainability Policy which provides paper procurement and use requirements.

Paper purchased by Dalhousie units should be purchased at the Dalhousie Print Centre which offers 100% post-consumer paper as the base paper for the university. Both in Halifax and at the Agricultural Campus, the base office paper is (Forestry Stewardship Council) or (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) certified.

Office supplies agreement

Dalhousie currently has a purchasing agreement with Staples Advantage.听Look for the EcoEasy logo to identify products that meet Staples鈥 鈥渆co-conscious鈥 criteria:

- 30% post-consumer recycled content, or more.
- Third-party standards and certifications such as Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), GreenSeal, Rainforest Alliance, ENERGY STAR, and Crade to Crade, among others.
- Other eco-design elements such as biobased plastics, rapidly renewable materials, and agricultural residues (ex. sugarcane by-products).

Purchasing tips

- look for products that are durable, long-lasting, and refillable
- buy office supplies in bulk to minimize packaging and delivery trips
- minimize the amount of packaging material and that packaging is reused or recycled.
